Agree a non-verbal signal before anything else

Why silicone for the ball

Silicone is gentle against the mouth and does not irritate the way a hard plastic ball can. It is also waterproof and non-porous, which matters more here than on almost anything else you own, because this spends the session in someone's mouth.

Fitting it

The ball should rest in the mouth without forcing the jaw wide. Buckle the strap snug with a finger's clearance behind the head, and keep it clear of the eyes and ears. Check your partner can breathe easily through the nose before you continue.

Keep sessions short

Jaw fatigue arrives well before anyone thinks to mention it, and a gag makes mentioning it hard. Expect drooling, which is normal, and have a towel to hand. Remove immediately for jaw pain, any breathing difficulty or any sign of distress.

Never leave a gagged partner alone

At any point, for any reason.

Afterwards

Take the gag off slowly and give the jaw a moment before removing it fully. Check the mouth and face for marks, massage the jaw if it needs it, and offer water.
