Worth being clear about, because the two behave nothing alike. A paddle spreads force across a wide face. This concentrates it into a small heart-shaped tip, so the stroke is sharp, precise and immediate, and very little force is needed to be felt.

That precision cuts both ways. A crop punishes bad aim in a way a broad paddle does not. Practise on a pillow until you can land it where you are looking, every time, before you use it on anybody.

What the length gives you

Using it

Never the spine, lower back, kidneys, tailbone, joints or face, and be especially careful with a crop, where a stray stroke lands all its force in one small spot. Check in often and increase intensity only with a clear yes.
